Show Explanations
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is an American crime drama television series that trails the investigations of a team of Las Vegas forensic scientists as they unveil the circumstances behind mysterious and unusual deaths and other crimes. The show was created by Anthony E. Zuiker and is filmed primarily on the Universal Studios at Universal City, California. The pilot episode was first broadcast on October 6, 2000, and eight seasons have been aired. CSI is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Productions, which became CBS Paramount Television in the fall of 2006. Formerly a co-production with the now-defunct Alliance Atlantis Communications, that company's interest in the series is now owned by investment firm GS Capital Partners, an affiliate of Goldman Sachs. CBS Paramount acquired AAC's international distribution rights to the program. The show was heavily criticized almost since its debut by police and district attorneys, who felt CSI showed an inaccurate perception of how police solve crimes, by the Parents Television Council, who noted the level and gratuitousness of graphic violence, images, and sexual content seen on the show. Nevertheless, CSI became the most-watched program on American television by 2002, with 30 to 40 million viewers a week. The success of the show encouraged CBS into producing a franchise, starting in May 2002 with the spin-off CSI: Miami and then again in 2004 with CSI: NY. A large part of that success has been attributed to the popularity of its core cast and cutting-edge storylines. US network CBS has gone into damage control and announced a plan is in place to lessen the blow of Petersen leaving. That includes the addition of The L Word star Lauren Lee Smith to the core cast and beefing up the roles of existing and popular supporting actors Liz Vassey and David Berman. Fox will also return for multiple guest appearances next year, but Dourdan's fate remains unknown. The troubled actor pleaded guilty to cocaine and ecstasy possession in May and will be forced to complete a drug rehab program. More…
Desperate Housewives is an American television comedy-drama series, created by Marc Cherry, who also serves as show runner, and produced by ABC Studios and Cherry Productions. Executive producers, as of the fourth season, are Marc Cherry, Bob Daily, George W. Perkins, John Pardee and Joey Murphy, David Grossman, Larry Shaw and Sabrina Wind. The setting of the show is the street of Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview, Eagle State. It follows the lives of a group of women, seen through the eyes of their dead neighbor, as they work through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes and mysteries hidden behind the doors of their – at the surface – beautiful suburban neighborhood. The show features an ensemble cast, headed by Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp, Eva Longoria Parker as Gabrielle Solis, Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Britt and Dana Delany as Katherine Mayfair. Brenda Strong narrates the show as the deceased Mary Alice Young. Since its premiere on ABC on October 3, 2004, the show has been well received by the critics as well as the audience. The show is a multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award winner, and in April 2007 it was reported to be the most popular show in its demographic worldwide, with an audience of approximately 115 to 119 million viewers. When "Desperate Housewives" returns for its fifth season on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 28, the show's timeline will jump ahead five years for the divas of Wisteria Lane — Susan (Teri Hatcher), Bree (Marcia Cross), Lynette (Felicity Huffman), Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker) and Katherine (Dana Delany). But before their lives go into fast forward, ET has a look back at how these daring damsels survived and thrived in the first four years of the hit series. More
